Empowering Communities through Training: GMSTCI Conducts Community Mines Ranger Training in Tassarene
From June 1 to 9, 2025, the Guyana Mining School and Training Centre Inc. (GMSTCI) hosted an 8-day Community Mines Ranger Training (CMRT) at the Tassarene Community ICT Hub, Region 7 (Cuyuni-Mazaruni). The training was led by Mr. Nathan Indarsingh (Instructor I) and Ms. Cindy Evans (Instructor I), assisted by Mr. Daniel Kansinally (Assistant Instructor). A total of 13 participants, 7 males and 6 females,  representing both Tassarene and Kangaruma communities took part in this intensive capacity-building initiative.
The CMRT program is part of GMSTCI’s ongoing mission to equip Amerindian communities with the knowledge and technical skills necessary for effective mining oversight and sustainable resource management. Over the eight days, participants engaged in practical and interactive sessions covering Map Reading and Navigation (GPS), Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), and Mining Regulations. These modules provided Rangers with essential field skills to assist the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) in monitoring mining operations, promoting safety, and ensuring compliance with national mining laws.
The successful completion of the training highlights the GMSTCI’s dedication to promoting responsible mining and sustainable livelihoods in Guyana’s hinterland. By strengthening local capacity through education and practical training, the institution continues to bridge the gap between regulatory enforcement and community participation.
